FMCP production of Down To Earth
Production Coordinator: Polly Adkins
FMCP will present a Performed Reading of Judy Simpson Cook's STARSTRUCK, a charming, hilarious story. What is a "Performed Reading?" It is a full production with a full cast of professional actors who create a story without set, props or costumes. The actors face the audience, not their fellow actors, acting the scenes with the aid of a script on a stand in front of them. The audience sees and hears their pain, their humor, their anger and their love. It is similar to radio stories, but even more enticing because of the emotions on the faces of the actors. The sets and costumes are described by another reader, and the audience can see the scenes in their imagination.
Synopsis:
What's the most sure-fire formula for lunacy? Bring a big time Hollywood production to a small town and - guaranteed - almost everybody goes crazy. The folks of Fair Hope, North Carolina are no exception. Except for Little Bud Cuthbertson, grandson of the eponymous Maw-Maw. When Roge Charnovsky, Hollywood movie mogul, comes to town, Bud never imagines that his grandmother, the most stereotypical, little-old-Southern-lady in the world would get caught up in auditions, casting, and all the behind-the-scenes activities of shooting a movie on location. He would have sworn his wife, Tammy, never would. But when the beautiful and famous actress, Michelle Marais, comes to town, not only to star in and co-produce the movie, but to stay at Maw-Maw's house, Tammy, too, is swept up in the excitement. The town experiences the thrills and disappointments of "being part of the industry," they meet challenges and make choices and find things in themselves they didn't know were there. Come to Fair Hope, North Carolina. Be a part of the industry. You might fall under the spell, too.
